ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

One of the many outstanding programs offered by the MJCA library is the Accelerated Reader Program. Elementary and middle school students are able to read supplied books and demonstrate comprehension on those texts by successfully completing AR testing. With each success, students are able to accrue points that can be spent in the annual AR store. Last Friday (5/15), elementary students were able to spend their points on a variety of items. The library was packed with display tables and students clamoring to spend their well-earned points. Congratulations to these readers!

Two high scoring elementary students spend their points at the Accelerated Reader store!

TSSAA STUDENT-ATHLETES SECONDARY

Some of MJCA's hardest working students are also our hardest working athletes. The Tennessee Secondary School Association Athletic Association recently recogized a very special group of these student-athletes. The TSSAA Student-Athlete Award of Merit was issued to all of our high school players who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher during the season of their sport(s). We are so proud of these young men and women. They represent MJCA with excellence!

SENIOR DINNER 2009

On Friday evening (5/22), seniors and their parents gathered for the annual MJCA senior dinner. This year our MJCA graduates enjoyed a spaghetti dinner prepared by our very own Dawn Reed. Secondary teachers function as waiters and waitresses for the evening, and the event provides a fun time of fellowship for these students and their families in a very fast paced, stressful month.

After dinner, everyone made their way to the sanctuary for the senior video, prepared this year by Mrs. Becky Michael. Important senior announcements were made, and senior gifts distributed. Thanks to all who helped to make this evening very special for the Class of 2009!

MJCA PROM 2009

MJCA students put on their finest, picked up their dates and headed out Saturday night (5/2) to the Mill in Lebanon, Tennessee. The Mill at Lebanon, formerly the L:ebanon Woolen Mill is a revitalized commercial property that provided the perfect setting for an evening on the town.

Students began arriving at 6 p.m. and prepared for a MJCA annual tradition, the senior walk. Students took plenty of pictures and enjoyed an assortment of food, including the chaperone favorite, chocolate fountain. After senior walk, our 2009 Prom Prince and Princess were named. This year's winners were juniors, Jeb Cassidy and SarahBeth Walker. Our 2009 Prom King and Queen were Chris Frazier and Kayla Webb!

We would like to offer a special thanks to Mrs. Dana Spence for planning and organizing another successful prom! Thanks for providing an opportunity to make another great memory!!

ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING BEGINS

All of the studying and preparation has led to this week for our secondary Advanced Placement students. The first week of May provides each student the opportunity to earn college credit by scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on this national exam. The rigorous Advanced Placement curriculum is designed to both challenge students intellectually, and to prepare them for success in May.

On Wednesday (5/6), Mrs. Kitchen's AP Calculus students completed their exam, and Mr. Turner's AP American History students will follow suit on Friday (5/8). Test results can earn students valuable college credit hours. These results are generally reported to schools across the country by the third week in July. We are praying for the success of all of our students this week. Congratulations on all of your hard work!

MJCA PTO

MJCA PTO came through with an outstanding day of encouragement for our faculty and staff on Wednesday (5/6). After a Chick Fil-A sponsored breakfast, snacks and sweets got teachers through the morning hours. Bags of goodies were distributed in teacher classrooms and a catered lunch was provided. Teachers also were able to take advantage of free neck massages and choose one free item from the Spirit Store. Finally, a drawing was held for donated merchandise, and each teacher was selected for a series of special "superlative" awards. Thanks so much to our awesome PTO for making the faculty and staff feel so special!

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY ELEMENTARY

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy elementary has established a chapter of the new National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) to recognize our most outstanding 4th and 5th grade students. We are designated as a "Founding Chapter" of the National Elementary Honor Society.

The NEHS is more than just an honor roll. Students must have a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and they must demonstrate responsibility at school on a regular basis. New members will develop leadership skills that will further strengthen MJCA and our community.

Eligible students will receive a membership application to complete and return after the beginning of the new school year. Once applications are verified and reviewed, candidates and parents will be notified, and eligible students will be invited for induction in the chapter.
