A WEEK OF FIRSTS: ELEMENTARY Elementary students found themselves hard at work this week. Getting used to new teachers, classrooms and classmates is certainly an adventure. The hallways were once again filled with the sounds of eager children, and a new year has begun!
FIRST WEEK: SECONDARY Secondary students worked to conquer new schedules, new classes and new class times. Nevertheless, it has been an amazingly smooth transition for everyone as summer has quietly slipped away. Saying hello to friends! Work has already started! Middle school students conquer the cafeteria! Teachers are ready for a new year! ____________________________________ NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SECONDARY Members of National Honor Society kicked off their year this week with an organizational meeting with sponsor Jennifer Christensen. Students are invited for membership in grades 10-12 based on a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, along with a standard of leadership and service. NHS initiation takes place on Secondary Awards Night each spring. These outstanding young men and women will be participating in a quarterly service initiative. Students will vote on projects to undertake and become a part of understanding their community through service. We are looking forward to a great year of demonstrating leadership through service to others. ____________________________________ BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN
__________________________ STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS Last Tuesday (8/18) in a special chapel extended meeting, student council candidates made speeches to the student body before elections in homeroom the following morning. Class officers as well as student council representatives took the microphone for a few moments to tell classmates why they would be the best for the job. This provides students in the ninth through twelfth grade the opportunity to test their speaking skills as well as participate in a campaign process. Student council candidates wait their turn for the microphone. Noa Stroop addresses the crowd during his bid for Student Council President. ____________________________________ HORTON HAVEN RETREAT WORSHIP

MJCA TEACHER INSERVICE 2009 As swiftly as it came, summer left us last week as teacher inservice kicked off a brand new school year. Faculty and staff reunited under the direction and leadership of Headmaster Greg Scheck. Teachers attended meetings, worked to prepare classrooms for new students, and enjoyed fellowship over lunch at the Scheck home. With hearts and minds surrendered to the lordship of Christ, MJCA will face all upcoming challenges with hope and perserverance. Most certainly, the MJCA faculty and staff look forward to partnering with all of our families this school year! We are praying for all of our students as they begin school on Tuesday (8/4). Teachers listen to the Headmaster's Challenge! Friends and Co-Workers! _________________________________________________ BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN KICK-OFF
Elementary students attended an important and exciting rally Tuesday afternoon (8/11) announcing the kick-off of the annual Boosterthon Fun Run. Each student will be seeking financial sponsorship per lap of the Fun Run. Students listened eagerly to instructions regarding pledges. They also were informed of the benefits of participating in Fun Run 2009. This will be the third year of Boosterthon at MJCA, and we are looking for another exciting event for our elementary students!! Support our smallest Saints by making a pledge!!
_________________________________________________ SCHOOLWIDE PEP RALLY
The seniors are not short on enthusiasm about their last year! This was most evident last Thursday (8/20) at the first schoolwide pep rally! Students of all ages gathered in the gym to help support the varsity football players as they prepared for the first game of the season against DCA (8/21). All fall sports were also in the spotlight as many of these teams have already begun their respective seasons. Cheerleaders had prepared a fun afternoon for all ages by incorporating fun games and activities that included the youngest of our elementary students to the oldest. In addition, the faculty were able to flex their skills in a student/teacher volleyball match. Thanks to all of the hard work and planning by our MJCA cheerleaders and sponsors!
_________________________________________________ HORTON HAVEN RETREAT 2009 MIDDLE SCHOOL Middle school students and chaperones loaded the bus last Monday and Tuesday (8/24-8/25) for the annual Horton Haven retreat near Henry Horton State Park. With speaker, Nate Johnson and worship leader, Jonathan Roberts, students were prepared for a great time of worship and fellowship. This year the middle school retreat was scheduled earlier in the fall semester allowing for the addition of pool time among other exciting activities. The zip line is always a favorite, and canoeing down the river with friends and classmates always creates lasting memories! Thanks to Mr. Spence and the middle school teachers for providing a fun, memorable and spiritually enriching retreat this year for our middle school students! _________________________________________________ |
MJCA ORIENTATION 2009 Parents and students filled the sanctuary at First Baptist Church Mt. Juliet on Sunday and Monday (8/2-8/3) anxiously awaiting information about the upcoming school year. Elementary and secondary orientations were held on Monday evening. New families were called in an hour early to receive more individualized instruction about school procedures. Elementary and secondary parents listened as Greg Scheck welcomed them to a new and exciting year filled with promise and possibility. Secondary Principal Kathy Kitchen and Elementary Principal Amanda VanVactor both informed families about first day instructions and changes in student policies. Athletic Director Paul Christensen encouraged our school family to support the Saints this year. Vital organizations, such as PTO and the Booster Club, were given the opportunity to promote upcoming events. The end of the evening provided a chance for secondary students to pick up their class schedules and elementary students to meet their teachers. _____________________________________ STOP LITTER CAMPAIGN FIRST PLACE Mrs. York's art classes have something to really be excited about! Their entry, pictured above, into the Wilson County Fair Stop Litter Campaign won first place among area schools. W.J. Baird placed second and Friendship placed third. Congratulations Mrs. York and her students for such outstanding work! You make MJCA proud! _____________________________________ MJCA WORK DAY 2009 Coaches, students and parents all took time out of their busy weekend schedules to be a part of MJCA Work Day on Saturday, August 8th.
