MJCA STUDENTS SERVE AT DELL WEBB 5K

MJCA students had a great opportunity to perform community service in Mt. Juliet on Saturday (10/1). The Dell Webb 5K in Providence provided the perfect chance for our students to participate in outreach.

Cheerleaders came ready to encourage the runners in the event, while other students handed out refreshments to the participants. In addition, some of our MJCA students staffed the children play jump stations.

This event is just one of the many chances our students will have this year to reach out in concrete and tangible ways. Please contact Ms. Holli Dunbar with any questions regarding community service opportunities and requirements!

"THE ENERGYZED GUY" ELEMENTARY

The TVA and Nashville Children's Theatre presented "The Energyzed Guy" during a special assembly on Monday (10/19). Using humor, the drama defined for our elementary students what energy and electricity are and how each of us can use them wisely and efficiently. By combining examples of ways we can conserve energy and witty dialogue, the actors entertained our elementary while educating them.

GRANDPARENTS DAY 2009

MJCA celebrated Grandparent's Day on Friday (10/9) with an assembly program featuring a wide range of student talent. Mr. David Spence served as emcee for the assembly which highlighted students from the preschool all to the way to the Class of 2010.

Student groups were able to perform songs and recitations from the scripture, while individual students quoted core value statements and Bible verses from memory. Hanna Randolph, MJCA sophomore, shared about a life changing mission trip she took this summer. Another highlight of the event was the return of Mrs. Lou Barron, former elementary principal of MJCA. She shared a few of her experiences with the crowd reminding each of us of the central foundation upon which the school is built, the gosepl of Jesus Christ.

This event was a wonderful way for MJCA students to create a cherished memory with their grandparents and special friends. Thanks to David Spence and Tina Pressley for organizing such a great event!

MJCA SCIENCE TEACHER HONORED BY COLLEGE BOARD

Michael Henderson was honored by the College Board's Advanced Placement Program for his significant contributions at the 2009 AP Reading.

In June 2009, Mr. Henderson, along with 126 high school AP Chemistry teachers joined forces with college faculty who teach in the same discipline to score 105,083 exams in Lincoln, Nebraska. The program's acknowledged success is due to an evaluation and scoring process that reflects the high standards of AP Readers who, by virtue of their experience and expertise, have appropriate student performance expectations within their respective disciplines.

In addition, Mr. Henderson was able to use this time as a valuable professional development experience. Exchanging ideas about the types of instructional practices that lead to optimal student peformance are highly valued aspects of the overall AP Reading experience. MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE FUN WITH BOTTLE ROCKETS

MJCA 8th grade physical science class recently demonstrated their end of nine weeks' science projects. They were required to make a "transit" and use it to determine how high their bottle rocket shot. This involved using the distance from the launch pad multiplied by the tangent angle. The winners of the water bottle rockets were determined by the bottle rockets with the longest flight time, highest flight and the furthest flight from the launch pad. Middle school science can be fun!
